Topic: Ergonomic Injuries: Common Causes and Resolutions
Kathy and Sue were fortunate to provide onsite physical therapy services early in the age of increased ergonomic injuries, many(but not all) related to computer use. Providing onsite Physical Therapy, posed certain risks and benefits! The major risks were associated with the need to quickly identify the ergonomic injury source and the solution. The goal was quick resolution and absence or minimal lost time.
The benefit was the early identification of 6 recurring injuries accounting for approximately 95% of the case load. Our customers were recognizing the recurring common signs, symptoms and solutions and began to request training around those common injuries to reduce injury rates. With management support, there was a rapid decline in injuries within those business units - and continues to be so.
They would like to share their story, discuss the 6 common causes for ergonomic injuries that we see in the clinic and industry and the application of ergonomic principles in the resolution of these discomforts.
